Moving
Rules on importing personal belongings to France are specific. Please do not forget to contact the Welcome Office to receive the dedicated ITER forms that you have to fill in before your departure.
We would advise you to have your move carried out by an international moving company who has experience in these matters. We have selected three International Moving companies. The services of these companies include the ITER French Customs procedure.
Please find hereafter their websites where you may find useful information regarding your move to France and all the administrative formalities. But, of course, you are free to choose any other moving company according to your needs.

Relocation
The Agence Iter France provides you with a specialized company for relocation of families. They will help you to look for accommodation after you have filled out a form on your needs.
The Welcome Office remains the first contact and then will put you in contact with the relocation company by email or by phone.

Renting a house
To rent a house in France requires the tenant to:
- Sign a rental lease that can be renewed for 1 year for a furnished house / apartment and for 3 years for an empty one
- The tenant can at any time cancel the lease and must give notice (3 months on average)
- Take out housing insurance the day the estate agent gives you the keys. The relocation company checks if everything is in order and helps you to fill out the insurance forms.
The Welcome Office and the relocation company will help you with the terms and conditions of the rental of your house:
- Payment of your monthly rent by bank transfer
- Explanation of the rental clauses (guarantee deposit, real estate agency fees and downpayment).
Local Tax
You will have to pay the following local taxes:
- Taxe d’habitation (council tax for house occupier) for services provided by the town and region such as schools, waste collection, road maintenance, etc. This is to be paid at the beginning on the 1st of January of each year.
- Taxe foncière (property tax), only if you own your apartment or house depends on the living space, the composition of your family and the location of the house. For example: near Aix-en-Provence, for a villa of 100 m², your tax will be between 800 € to 1200 € and for a 2-room apartment 500 € per year.
