This presentation focuses on the challenges facing individuals and groups who need to work with people from other cultures. It explains the dynamics of success in such interactions and it examines the individual attributes that help facilitate intercultural interactions. Based on the Global Mindset Project at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, the presentation provides an in-depth examination of Global Mindset, a set of individual qualities and attributes that enable individuals and groups to work more effectively with those from other cultures. Global Mindset consists of three major dimensions: Intellectual Capital, Psychological Capital, and Social Capital. Intellectual Capital refers to knowledge and cognitive complexity. Psychological Capital consists of passion for diversity, and quest for adventure. Social Capital refers to the ability to build trusting relationships with those from other cultures. Dr. Javidan will present the scientifically based instrument that he and his colleagues have developed to measure Global Mindset, called Global Mindset Inventory. The session will end with a discussion of how Global Mindset can be developed.
